Marie Lamba

"Marketing Outside the Box: Bringing your Book to Life and Keeping it Alive"

Great books will get published... Great books will be succesful... BUT only if YOU can market them. In this frank talk, author Marie Lamba (What I Meant..., Random House) will dispel myths that hold authors back from being published, and unmask common beliefs that actually prevent their published books from reaching their audience. With personal anecdotes, she'll show how any little person with some guts and an internet connection can bring her book national attention and a steady stream of appreciative readers, and do far more than any publicity team at a major publisher would probably ever do.

Marie Lamba is the author of the young adult novel What I Meant... (Random House), which Publisher's Weekly dubbed "an impressive debut." She has also completed two other YA novels, and her essay "The View from the Outside" was just published in the anthology Call Me Okaasan: Adventures in Multicultural Mothering (Wyatt-MacKenzie Publishing). When not writing, Marie maintains a busy promotion schedule with frequent signings and talks. Her innovative Girl Scout reading workshop has reached hundreds of teens throughout PA and NJ, and was featured in Publisher's Weekly's Children's Bookshelf, and in Shelfawareness. As a member of the Philly Liar's Club (http://liarsclubphilly.com), she has set up a "Truth Tour" of parties celebrating independent bookstores, and this has garnered attention from the New Atlantic Independent Booksellers Association, and from the American Bookseller's Association.
